Scott was already a past client of ours under Z’s Catering & BBQ. He decided in the summer of 2024 that he wanted to expand and create another catering company called Grumpy Gregg’s BBQ, named after his cat, Gregg.

Scott wanted to use his cat, Gregg, as the mascot and face of his new catering business, Grumpy Gregg’s BBQ. He wanted Gregg to wear a cowboy hat and have a piece of straw in his mouth. He had two photos of Gregg as references.
Before creating the logo, Scott gave me his Gregg’s story and why they called him ‘Grumpy Gregg.’ When they first adopted him they brought him home and they were eating pizza. Gregg was quick to steal Scott’s slice and take off with it. He was a grumpy kitty when they got the slice back.
That personal story was great to think about while brainstorming logos. I created a few versions. One of them Gregg had a more stern look that had a little more of a grumpy look. But Scott chose the version on the right.
He requested minor tweaks, one of them adding the tufts of fur on his ears and the other adding the spots on his nose to look more like him. It makes him look more unique and imperfect.
